Betty Abby John
Board President — John Doty
I was born in Denver Colorado in 1950. We were a banking family. My father was an avid fisherman and loved the Bahamas. He was president of the Colorado Bankers Association and owned his own bank that he started in 1956 from scratch. When I was 15 he developed a terminal cancer and decided to put me in St. Andrews Episcopal boarding School in Boca Raton because of the amount of time my mother and he were spending in the Bahamas. He died in my senior year when he was 48 and I was 18. After high school graduation I returned to Denver where I attended the University of Denver majoring in finance. After 2 years I realized I was never going to be a banker. I made a shift to the school of Design at the University. I graduated with a degree in design. My degree made it possible for me to develop successful products for my manufacturing.
Not long after college, I moved to Fayetteville Ar. to start a manufacturing business specializing in interior architectural components (solid hardwood raised panel fireplace mantels and trim moldings). The business was successful with sales in every state and 7 foreign countries. During the 30 year run of my business it was the largest fire threat in the county. I volunteered to help the fire service in the area. I was made the fire-chief after 4 years. I was in that volunteer position for 20 years. I was hired as a reserve EMT-Ambulance medic for 15 years during that time. During the time of running my businesses and doing the volunteer work I was a busy person.
In 1983 I underwent a cervical spinal fusion of one disk. In those days the recovery was 10 days in the hospital. Right before the surgery I had bought a goofy little thing called the Timex/Sinclair personal computer. Using that funky little thing to pass my time in the hospital I taught myself "Basic" computer code and made programs that ultimately improved my manufacturing business production and order tracking enormously. Needless to say I was sold on personal computers and over the years I developed catalogs, advertising, digital product and training videos, and websites. So that's why I am the webmaster for this website.
I've been married to Betty for 45 years. I have 2 adult children and 4 grandchildren.
